Kudos to the team of developers, project managers, designers and testers that worked relentlessly for over a year to bring this product to fruition. A team of professionals across three continent and time zones with common goal to produce a new product category for the Email Hosting market.

As pioneers in the IMAP Email Hosting, we realized that one of the obstacles in convincing customers to move from POP3 to IMAP was the customers confidence in the reliability and availability of the provider email backup system. The market needs an independent IMAP Backup service that gives customers the control over their email data regardless of their primary Email Server condition.

Since we launched our premium Email Archiving for Compliance in 2004, we have seen that there is a market segment that is not served and require email backup and archiving for disaster recovery and legal discovery.
The IMAP Backup and Archiving service for non-compliance is an excellent solution for companies that need the extra protection without the exuberant costs of Email Archiving for Compliance.

These were the driven forces behind vision of a new product category of IMAP Email Backup and Archiving.

Does IMAP Backup and Archiver work for POP3 email accounts?

IMAP Backup and IMAP Archiver are able to backup files on the server at the times both systems retrieve emails from your email account(s). Both systems work throughout the day but are unable to backup many of your emails if you use POP3 and remove the emails from the server.

In order to backup emails for your account while using POP3, we recommend that you enable the “Leave on server” option in your email program for a period of no less than 48 hours.

How can I activate IMAP Archiver?

IMAP Archiver is enabled by default for Simplicato email customers for a period of 3 months. If you are a Simplicato customer and would like to enable IMAP Archiver for a longer period of time, please contact us.

How do I activate IMAP Backup?

IMAP Backup is automatically activated on all email accounts hosted with Simplicato. If you are not a Simplicato email customer, IMAP Backup may be ordered (with a free trial) from the IMAP Backup website.

View IMAP Backup Restored Files.

After an IMAP Backup Snapshot file is restored, a folder containing all the emails and subfolders is placed in the email account the backup is restored to. The folder has a name which begins with “Restore” and ends with the date of the restore in the format “mmddyyyy”.

Example: Restore02232009-Inbox

After performing a restore, log into your email account via webmail or via IMAP in your email program to view the restored content. Within the restored folder should be an Inbox which includes all the emails from your root inbox which were contained in the backup.

Note, if viewing the restored content via an email program, you may be required to subscribe to the folder before its content is displayed.

How do I Restore my email backup with IMAP Backup?

In order to schedule a restore of a backup for your account:

Click “Snapshots” on the Imap Backup menu
Locate the date of the backup you would like to restore and click the link “schedule restore”
Verify that the information displayed is correct then click “Schedule Restore” again.

View accounts currently being backed up by IMAP Backup.

To view the email accounts currently being backed up by IMAP Backup, click the “Backup Accounts” link on the IMAP Backup Menu. The “Last Backup” date should be 24 hours or less and the “Active” column should display “Yes”.

How do I log into IMAP Backup and Archiver?

Prior to logging into IMAP Backup and IMAP Archiver for the first time, a password must be established for the account. In order to setup a new password for your IMAP Backup account, please visit the Login page (using the Login link at the top of the page) and click the “Reset Password” link. A new password will be sent to the appropriate email address.
